Question Are finger tapes allowed in raw powerlifting?

I use hook grip for deadlifts. For heavy weights, I need to wrap my thumbs with tapes otherwise it hurts. But are they allowed in a 100% raw powerlifting competition?

I don't know. It probably depends on the federation, like most things about powerlifting.

Yeah you'll have to check the individual fed's rulebook. What fed are you looking at?

They could be considered a grip aid. Look into approved gear for the fed. It would suck to get sent off the platform before your first attempt.

    Here's what ipf says:

    "Non supportive wraps:
Wraps made of medical crepe or bandage and sweatbands do not require Technical Committee approval.

    7. Two layers of medical tape may be worn around the thumbs. Medical tape or its like may not be worn anywhere else on the body without official permission of the Jury, or Chief Referee. Medical tape may not be used as aids to the lifter in holding the bar"

So according to ipf, tapes can't be used to help the lifter to hold the bar.

Which leaves a lot of room for interpretation.

In the federation I competed in they did not allow anything.
On the bench press they stated that we can use a wrist wrap up to 24 inches(thumb strap OUT) and chalk(no liquids)

No watches or thumb wraps allowed, the only exception was the wedding ring.
Just go through your federation's rule book, it's there.

    "Personal Equipment
100% RAW does not allow the use of elbow sleeves, knee wraps, knee sleeves, tape applied around a limb or finger, supportive lifting suit, supportive briefs, compression shorts, supportive shirts or compression shirts. Lifters are responsible for having proper equipment. The use of wrist wraps and a lifting belt is permitted (see specifications below)."

Page 4, Paragraph 2, 100% Raw Rule Book, from their website.

On a side note the medical tape rule in IPF.
Two layers of medical tape around your thumb is allowed. Anything else would depend on the jury, whom I imagine would use common sense in their decision making.

Am I wrong to think that wearing a wedding ring during heavy lifts is crazy? The few times I have inadvertently left it on, it chewed up my hands something awful even during warmups.
