    Coach,

I am trying to get back to consistent training, but every time I go to the gym and do my squats, I end up with a tremendously sore lower back as a result and I cant return to the gym for weeks. Any advice would be appreciated.

Could be a back condition, could be a form problem. It would be very helpful to have a video.

Can't return to the gym for WEEKS after a single squat session? Go to your ortho.

Also, do you experience similar pain in your legs, or is it just the lower back?

My suggestion would be to post videos so people can critique your form.

I struggled with the same thing. I was fine until the weight got up a bit and then I'd be in pain after every single session. I lost my motivation to keep going until I listened to Rip's back pain podcast.

Mine eventually went away. I'm pretty sure that it was improved form that fixed it. I had some people watch me and they said I was basically doing a heavy good morning when I was squatting. I also got some lifting shoes which helped me get a better & deeper squat and keep my weight from shifting to the front of my foot.
