If this coach trains other athletes (or has done in the past) and they're progressing well, you should probably just listen to him/her.

Justin from 70's Big posted a novice OL template a while back that combined linear progression with OL. Google that, it shouldn't be hard to find.
If you just want an OL template, the coach should be able to point you in the right direction.
