    Default Increasing Weightlifting Shoe Grip

    • starting strength seminar october 2024
    • starting strength seminar december 2024
    My feet end up rotating outwards mid squat because the soles on the Romaleos aren't as grippy as I'd like. They don't seem to stick to the platform like my old shoes did. Anybody have any ideas on how to give them more traction?

    Thought about this, but not sure how effective it is or how often I'd have to reapply it.

    Maybe some shoe-goo? It's kind of tacky.

    Google came up with some skating forums and a lot of them are saying that Shoe Goo made their shoes less grippy. I suppose skateboards are a bit different than platforms though.

    Yeah, I've never used Romaleos, so I don't even know precisely what you're dealing with. I used the goo on a pair of dress shoes that I wore through the sole of. Just trying to start a brainstorm.

    Unless your platform is really slick, the problem may just be that you are squatting with your weight too much on your heels.

    I've had the same thing happen and that was the culprit.

    This. Did you use high gloss polyurethane on the platform?

    It's a hammer fitness platform (glossy wood).

    Spraying it with cleaner and giving it a good wipe makes things much better, but there's still some rotation by the end of the set. A big part of it is that I have to squat toes forward, which makes it much easier for my feet to rotate without really good grip.

    Back in the days of genuinely crappy basketball shoes, we improved our traction temporarily by wiping our feet on a wet towel just prior to heading out on the court. It should work long enough for a set of squats. The problem is dust.
