    Default Oly lifting on separate day?

    • starting strength seminar october 2024
    • starting strength seminar december 2024
    I have the opportunity to go to a 1 hour Oly lifting class once a week. Could I do this instead of the Power clean in Starting Strength? It would be on a separate day. (SS on Wed-Fri-Sun with Light squat on Fri, Oly on Thu).

    Male 44 years, 175 lbs, 5´7"
    Currently on standard Starting Strength, since 9 weeks, second time around
    Squat, dead: increase 1 kg; Press, bench: increase 0.5 kg
    Estimated 150 g protein/day, weight increasing slowly but steadily

    Day A: Squat, Press, Dead
    Day B: Squat, Bench, Weighted pull-ups

    Give it a try and see how it goes. I would not squat with Olympic lifting class since you are already doing that three times a week as it is. Catching the clean and snatch in the full squat is fine since it is rather submaximal. They probably won't have you pull in a straight line, but you would still get to work on your weightlifting. If you cannot recover, or it starts to bother your knees, you know what you need to do. At 44, you are on the cusp of not having to worry much about the fast lifts. If you like them, or want to become proficient with them, enjoy.
