I posted another question about split workouts due to time constraints, and got some very helpful answers. It made me curious, though: For those of you who either did or are doing the novice SS program, how long does it take for you to get through the basic three-lift workout? Assuming, of course, no unusual interfering factors.

Today was squats, presses and deadlifts and it took me a few minutes over an hour. I'm not doing power cleans so my other day times out about the same. I do pulldowns on that day.

It might have taken me just over an hour at first, but as I got deeper in the LP it takes me 90mins when I'm moving fairly quickly. If I do my warm up sets leisurely it might take just under two hours. At this point if I'm PR'ing any of my lifts I take an 8 min. break between sets, fwiw.

Those times are at my garage gym. If I go to the nearby college I can cut down time a little bit by warming up the bench or press when I'm squatting by moving back and forth between racks.

Longest session on SS was one hour thirty-eight minutes. I also homegym and combine do the "just the bar" warm-ups for the next exercise in line between working sets. It doesn't seem to affect the main lift success at all.

I typically do 2-3 lifts a session on a 5-3-1 routine. It takes me 20-30 minutes to complete.

About 90 minutes but I have taken as long as 2 1/2 hours. I was pretty tired.

Not exactly on point because I'm doing something different than SSLP, but I spend 2 hours 4 days a week in the gym, not including getting prepped and then getting cleaned up. I run a 5/3/1 on a big lift followed by a 5x5 on the complementary lift (say press 5/3/1 and bench 5x5) and then several accessory lifts--bench drop sets (3,4 or 5 x 10,) LTEs (3x10,) and rear flys (3x10). I try to do everything on a clock so I don't fuck around--4 minutes for the main lifts, 2 or 3 minutes for the accessories depending on what it is. Seems like a lot of time, I suppose, but I don't do any 'sport' outside the gym like BJJ or playing judo or basketball. It's like a meditation to me. During the week I try to hit the club at 4:00PM and wrap by 6:00 as the happy hour in the bar ends at 6:30. A man has to have his priorities. TMI, I realize. YMMV.
