I've been curious about this for awhile. Why must the bar be paused on your chest in a PL comp? Similarly, why is there no "up" command in the squat?

Sure, but if someone wants to do it, why not as long as they comply with all of the other rules like butt on the bench, feet on the floor, etc.? There's no rule against dive-bombing your squat. Maybe it's stupid to smash the bar across your chest but does it even help?

Yes, it can help a lot depending on the technique.

There is a rule, however, against bringing a box and bouncing your ass off of it. In the bench press, you get significant help if you are actually, physically bouncing off something (your chest).
