I know it's in the book and DVD but there a salutory reminder in today's Metro paper in the UK ...

"A wannabe weightlifter has been crushed to death by the equipment he bought to save money on gym fees....died during a workout in his garage, just hours after a lengthy drinkiing session with friends. The 28-year-old's body was discovered... on a training bench... [he] had bought the training bench just six weeks ago to save money on expensive gym fees....'I found him on the bench with the bar acrross his chest'".

The wages of fanaticism. You guys are late, we saw this yesterday. The money shot: His death is being treated as unexplained. An autopsy was underway Monday.

My detective skills lead me to believe it was Gravity in the garage with a steel bar.

Mean Ol' Mr Gravity strikes again... but he never works alone.

Anyone else interested in how he ended up dead with the bar still lying accross his chest?

If it was a sudden grip failure I'd think he wouldn't die or lose consciousness immediately so he'd roll off the bench or at least drop the barbell.

I like to imgaine that he couldn't get the bar off his chest and so he decided to have a little rest. He passes out with the bar on his chest and it weighed enough to cut off his oxygen supply.

That would be a "reporting error."

You mean it wasn't Colonel Mustard in the library after all?

I'm thinking more like Mr. Brown Ale, at the local pub, with a pint glass.

The TV news reported that he was benching 30kg and he had been drinking alcohol.

Sounds like a convergence of theories: Galileo, Newton, and, most notably, Darwin. I guess we'll have to wait for the autopsy.
