Texas Method, Moving VD sets to ID
Hello Andy
I'm a handball player from Denmark. (Here's a link to the sport Denmark beat France to win first gold in men's Handball - YouTube)
My stats are (all converted to lbs)
Male, 6"2, 85, 187, 19 years old.
Squat 1x5x303
Deadlift 1x5x341
Powerclean 5x3x210
Benchpress 1x5x198
Press 1x5x138
My sport basically don't have an off-season, and I'm just about to make my transition to intermediate programming.
My weekly schedule consist of 3 x 2 hours handball session with match either Saturday or Sunday.
My question is, do you think is possible to do in-season (with adequate eat and sleep) if you move two of the volume sets to as back-off sets? Or would TM still be too much?
For squats that would mean
VD: Squat 3x5x85-90%ID
Recovery: Squat 2x5x75-80%VD
ID: Squat 1x5 + 2x5x85-90%ID
The same would apply for benchpress/press
Do you think this could work or would you say that a HLM program is more optimal for strength gain?
Thank you so much for your time
//Andersen
