    Default Resting between reps

How do you progress on chinups with an injured lower back? I cant use a belt because my back gets inflamed from the pressure. I am currently holding a dumbell between my thighs but I cant increase the weight because it slips out then. Increasing reps with the same weight also sounds dumb, since this issue already made me use sets of 10. Holding the dumbbell between my feet is not possible because the pullup bar is toohigh. I tried to put 2,5 plates in my pockets but that makes my shorts slip down. Help me please! Seems like going up in reps is the only way of progression for me.

How much weight are you using? If you can't hold a dumbbell with your feet you probably can't hold a kettlebell, right? I'd try a backpack or a weight vest if you have one.

Did you try turning the belt around so the pressure is on the stomach?

I've used a chain around my waist with an olympic plate through it.

As long as you manage to get your reps in before your shorts slip completely off, they still count. And if you're lifting in a gym, people will see you and admire your dedication.

(I'm sorry, that probably isn't very helpful.)

You can buy a weighted vest or try a rucksack and put weights in it.

From memory this works better for dips than chins but I think it was still ok for the latter, possibly reversed (that's definitely how I did dips).

I'm using 66 lbs at the moment. Since I dont have chains nor a weighted west, I'll try it with a rucksack. I probably will split the weight up between what I am doing currently and the rucksack.

Is your lower back is getting inflamed from the pressure of a belt with 5lbs hanging from it?

No its getting inflamed from if I use more than 25 lbs, which I do. Since the heaviest dumbbell I can possibly hold between my thighs is 66lbs, I tried to progress further by adding weight to my pockets (and still holding that dumbbell).
