    Default Feeling Fant on deadlift

    Hi,

Sorry if this isn't the right place for this question.

I'm new to deadlifting and I've started the Rippetoe 'novice' programme. I"m up to 95kg on my deadlift.

I take a deep breath (Valsala) chest up, lift, hold the breath at the top, go back down and release. The problem is at the top I feel like I'm going to faint, (light headed) unless I breath and suck in another breath - then I feel fine.

Any idea what's going on there?

    Thanks in advance.

My guess is you are new to placing big demands on your body, and this have not yet adapted to doing so. It will probably get better as you lift more.

Puff out a little bit of air at the top of the lift. You will eventually adapt and it won't be an issue.

Thanks, I am pretty new. I'l try the 'release a bit of air' trick next time.

    Cheers,

Congratulations and welcome to deadlifts. A proper 5 rep set will make one get the vapors.

I've passed out after standing up too fast after a heavy deadlift. Good thing there were no sharp edges around, but I did get a fat lip.

Take a quick knee after your last rep, then rise carefully. (I still don't let out any air at the top.) And, faintness decreases with adaptation.
