    Hi SS Coaches,

I'm running SS and the last few heavy squat days have been very grindy. I managed to hit 325x5x3 last heavy session but the last 2 reps were crazy grinds and it took me 2 sessions to hit it. Today I was supposed to hit 330x5x3, but only managed a grindy set of 4 and a grindy set of 3. I know Ripp suggests trying it for 3 sessions before resetting, but I'm feeling like a reset is in order. Should I just reset 10% considering this, or should I try again for another 2 sessions? Other info: I have not reset yet, I'm 5'6" and 175 lbs, closer to 18-19% bf. Gaining weight slowly. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Have you switched to Advanced Novice squatting yet?

Yeah, about two weeks ago (at about a 310 squat) I added in the light squat day because the squatting was taking a toll on my ability to perform heavy deads. I actually recently was watching a Candito vid in which he explained hip drive in a way that resonated with me. I may have not been using my hips as efficiently as possible. Considering this, I may try 330x5x3 again and reassess where I'm at.

No. The kid squats 550 at a bw of 180 lbs with a style similar to that of the one Ripp advocates.

He's a strong kid, but he specifically made a video titled something like "Why Rippetoe is Wrong" about the squat and hip drive. This video was, shockingly, based on a (possibly purposeful) misunderstanding of SS and Rip's position, and didn't provide anything in the way of a compelling alternative analysis. It was an attempt at using someone with a much bigger name to get attention.

    But you already knew that.

If you're not a troll, yes, do the 10% reset and do not wait for the third failure.

If you are a troll, you're a mediocre one. Which makes it more likely you're just misinformed and not a troll.
