    Default Squat Form Question

    Rip,

I have been using Jim's 5-3-1 for about 7 months now and am having great success. Lately, however, my squat has started to lag behind a bit. I decided to go to the tape in an attempt to break down where I am going wrong. From the side angle, it looks as if my knees are coming forward despite my attempts to sit back. Could you possibly provide any insight? It also could be that I am just a sissy that needs to get stronger. Regardless, thanks in advance.

Squats start around 40 sec in:

Shouldn't you be asking Jim about this?

Yes sir, have done this as well. I was just hoping to get the most input possible.

I can't see your stance width/knee angle/bar position from the video angle you used.

Getting some shoes might help, I think the heel is coming a tiny bit off the floor at the bottom?

I could've done without the spitting on the floor, though...

Danish Vikings do not get offended by spitting on the floor.

I've always squatted in Chuck Taylor's without issue, but I see your point with my heels. They do seem to be moving a bit and that shouldn't be happening. Thanks for the input.

I had squatted in Adidas Handball Spezial and Chucks for a long time, when I finally got my act together and bought some lifting shoes. I also thought I was doing "fine", but it turned out to be the best investment in my training together with SS, PP and The Strongest Shall Survive. They're about 80-100 bucks, depending on which model you get (I have Rogue Do-Wins from 2009).

And Mark: I was not offended, rather puzzled about the little minute of spitting/wiping the floor. But you're right of course, I should be spitting on the floor as well. How is the WFAC policy on spitting?
