I always seem to whack my shins every week with deads and usually have open sores/ abrasions.

Today I banged my shin on the car door.....blood everywhere and no way it will heal before next heavy DL session.

Already wear thick long socks and put band aids/ dressing on existing abrasions.....anything else I can do while DL'ing (apart from NOT hitting my shin)?

I'm 52...my skin is a bit thinner than it used to be.

I wear neoprene knee sleeves over my shins. They work beautifully.

Cut a 2liter or 20z and bottle and put the plastic inside the sock across the shin.

Thick socks + baggy tracky dacks works for me. You want to make sure you're dragging, not whacking too.

Too hot for tracky dacks here in the tropics.

    Going to try these

The 2 liter bottle trick works well (thanks to Helgi for that one). If you pull correctly, you shouldn't mash them too much. But sometimes things get sloppy, so it is nice to have them on. They are so thi that you really don't notice them at all.

Have to find some bottles......will give it a go this weekend.

Yes, it only takes one sloppy pull to have a few hundred lb's banging into bone....and it is only once per set.

Don't like my idea of cricket pads? They stop a 90mph rock with only minor damage!

Cricket pads is a good idea, but if you really want to play it safe, I'd suggest something like this:

Same problem, had some deep, deep wounds that would keep re-opening from deadlifting.

Bought Rock Guard crossfit style shin guards for rope climbing and general crossfit stuff.

Since using them, coupled with some long socks, my shins have been fine - the wounds are nearly completely healed.

"Rock Guards by Rock Tape". Well worth the investment.
