    Default Best way to progress?

Is it better to continue from workout to workout using the same amount of weight increment for a given exercise until you miss reps and then reset, or would it be better to anticipate failure by noting when the weight gets very heavy and you barely get the last rep, and drop the weight increment down for that exercise at the next workout?

I don't believe this is covered in BBT but my apologies in advance if it is.

It's not mentioned specifically, but you can do it either way. If you're sharp enough to know that the next 10 lb. jump is not going to go, use 5. If that was ridiculously easy, you were wrong but you're not stuck.

I used exactly this method in last weeks in Press and Bench, incrementing 1Kg and often only 0.5Kg from previous workout (depending how I "felt" the weight). So if I couldn't do 5x3 the first time I did at minimum 4x3 but more often 5+5+4 and always 5x3 the second workout with same weight (often did 5x3 the first time). With 2Kg increments I was doing often 4+4+3 the first time and 5x3 only after three or also four workouts, thinking I had to do a backoff (really not needed). And psichologically is better for me to see a little increment than no increment at all and a regress in reps.

I've a couple of homemade "plates" of 250 grams (and thinking to make a 125 grams pair!)
