    Default Mechanical Advantage

    Does anyone know what the "Ideal" skeleton would look like and muscle insertions for strength training. I have often wondered if my muscles inserted here would I be less strong or there would I be more strong. Or longer arms or shorter etc...

    It depends for which lift. Natural deadlifters tend to have gorilla arms, but then they tend to be lousy bench pressers. Having bigger muscles allows the insertions to be at a more productive angle, which is why you need to gain weight to do well. Marty Gallagher has a formula somewhere for how heavy you should be to be a good powerlifter, depending on your height in order to maximize the leverage.

    Thanks for the response Karl! I'm 5'6 and I do notice that my deadlift numbers although good are not as good as they shoudlu be in reference to my friends who don't train deadlift as often vs. the bigger difference their numbers are versus my squat/press/bench

    Do you know where it might be located? I'm curious what it would look like, although I already have a goal of 205 lbs @ 5' 7"

    It's ~3.75-4lbs per inch height.

    I'm just 87 pounds away from being great then... 225-312.

    I guess it's a stupid question if that would be a "healthy" pursuit?

    eish, I should be 270-285lbs. Maybe I do need GOMAD...

    Keep in mind that the weight recommendation is if you want to be a good powerlifter, to maximize your potential. Whether you actually want to do it depends on your competitive goals.

    Once I figure out the right formula for my diet to turn me into a fat burning dynamo, that might be a fun experiment down the road.
