Just to confirm the 1x5 deadlift for a novice is the best way to go period, but what able a later stage lifter. For example I feel programing halting deadlifts for 3x5 or even 3x3 for 2 weeks then doing 1x5 on the 3rd works really well. My programs looks like this.

    Bench 5x5
    Press 3x5 90 precent
    Power clean 5x3

    Squat 5x5
    Press 5x5
    Penlay rows 3x5

Halting deadlift 3x5 every 3rd week 1x5 deadlift
    Squat 3x5 90 precent
    Bench 3x5 90 precent

I think the less intensity but more tonage has helped my pull.

You're only hitting the top of the heavy pull once every 3 weeks. And you mis-spelled "Barbell Rows." These programs are detailed in PPST3: https://aasgaardco.com/store/books-p...ngth-training/

I have the book, just wondering since the deadlift is very taxing if you or anyone has ever tried doing a submaxal approach since its a super taxing lift, especially once one hits there advanced novice phase. Obvously I wouldnt think to do that for bench or squat since they r not as taxing. My favorite programs for now are heavy/light split and the the HLM approach programs.

This is all discussed in the gray book.
