Training the Press for X-fit total competition
Mark,
If someone was training for the x-fit total competition and using the Texas Method would you still include the bench press in the program? Would you still stick to the method of training the bench 2 times a week and than the press 2 times a week or would you only specialise on the press?
If someone only trained the press would there be significant carryover to the bench if they increased their press?
I read a bit of a q&a on Dave Draper's forum with Bill Starr and he mentioned rounded back Good Mornings as a good movement-do you agree?
One last question-do you know Bill Starr's best numbers in the 5 -Bench,Squat etc?
Thanks

1.) If you're training for a specific event, it is always a good idea to train that specific event. So, if I was going to a CFT meet, I'd make the press my lift and the bench press my assistance exercise.
2.) If the press is weak relative to the bench, i.e. you're pressing less than half your bench press, it would probably indicate a strength imbalance that would benefit the heavier lift to fix. At the very least it would make your shoulders waaaaaay less prone to injury.
3.) Round-back goodmornings are an excellent exercise, and are covered in the 2nd edition of SS, due back from the printer next week, the bastard. Since we don't always have the luxury of using perfect lifting mechanics to pick up heavy objects, it makes large sense to train a little with bad mechanics so that you can use them if you have to.
4.) No, I don't. And if I did, he'd beat me for posting his personal shit without asking him. Which I'm not going to do.

Very Good comment Mark, with the bad mechanics is this the case with deadlifts and back injuries but one should go light with weights, and squats with compression on spine etc..
Thanks in advance!
