Squat/Deadlifts during IT Band Rehab
Mark,
I recently irritated my IT band due to some bad form with my squats (improper alignment of my feet, and likely traveling too far over the toes), and I am currently rehabilitating to get back up to my regular SS program. My question is thus: can I safely retain the deadlift while cutting squats out for a week or so, or will the deadlift aggravate the IT band just like the squat? I am not 100 percent sure about the mechanics involved, but I don't want to do rehabilitation that would involve stopping both deadlifts and squats. I would like to continue to train through the rehabilitation process. Any advice is appreciated.

How do you "rehab" an ITB that is not ruptured?

Good point
Good point, I stand corrected. The IT band is really sore, but walking and most activity is fine, and I have full ROM. I just experience soreness after prolonged sitting from the side of the knee through the calf, etc. I had this issue ten years ago when I was running marathons. I am not running on SS; I am just a little unsure as to how to alleviate the pain while continuing to train.

I think you must get a IT band release from a vicious massage therapist. If that was the problem, you'll know immediately and you'll be able to train as soon as the massage is over.

Thanks, Mark. That's exactly what I'm going to do. I appreciate the help.

I find that I have to stay on top of my IT bands. I had a similar issue, a massage therapist took care of it the first time around.
Then after that, I "foam" roll with a PVC pipe, everyday.
