Default Lowe back injury - cause?

Woke up this morning with really bad lower back pain. The pain is across the lower back, but is far more painful on my left side.

It hurts to bend over to pick something up or to put my lower back into any degree of flexion.

I herniated 2 discs in my back a few years ago, which I never fully recovered from. It occurred initially from rugby then hyperextending my back in the gym made it worse.

    I deadlifted yesterday(132.5kg x 5) with shitty form - x - YouTube

I have upper back flexion at the beginning of each pull due to kyphosis of my spine and i dont think it's related to this injury.

I had no pain at all yesterday after I finished lifting. My squats (70kg x 5) felt awful, with a decent amount of lumbar flexion. I think the cause of this injury is letting the weight pull me down during the deadlifts, which was due to my grip slipping as my hands were really sweaty.

Does my form look so bad that it could have caused a pretty debilitating injury?

Maybe it's any one of those things, or a combination of them, or none of them at all. Back pain can be pretty mysterious. Did you bench or press yesterday when you did deadlifts?

Do you feel the pain radiating down any of your legs or any numbness and tingling?

For me, I have similar issues to you with deadlifts in that I can't get my upper back very flat but I can get my lumbar into extension no worries. I can deadlift the same as you and it never worries my lower back (touch wood).

What does aggravate my lower back is squats, either losing tightness at the bottom and changing from extension to flat (I don't even think it gets to flexion, I don't go deep enough), and also when the weight gets heavy it can get a bit more forward and good morningy out of the hole. Both of these will cause lower back pain/tightness post workout, but I believe it has become more resilient as time has gone by and my back has got stronger.

If you have numbness/tingling or radiating pain, get to a doc, stat. If it's just tight/sore I'd be taking NSAIDs and trying to keep it loose, and start lifting again as soon as you can do so with a weight that's light enough to not hurt.

    Thanks for the responses guys.

Im completely puzzled as to the root cause of the injury. The day after that gym session, I could hardly get out bed due to the pain. The following day (Friday) I was still stiff but the pain had dissipated to a high degree. On Saturday, I went to the gym but had no DLs that day. My squatting was ok but still had some lumbar flexion. On Sunday, I had no pain at all in my back so I assumed that the injury was due to deadlifts. Yesterday (Tuesday), before I started lifting, my back was 100%, no pain at all. My deadlifts were a bit slow but I kept my lumbar slightly tighter than the previous session. However, I rounded a bit on my last rep. Im deadlifting beltless for the next few days until my birthday where I'll buy myself a belt.

This morning, I have no pain at all. None. I cant get my head around how I got my initial injury. Anyone have any ideas at all?
