Pubic Symphysis Dysfunction
Background: I was diagnosed with pubic symphysis dysfunction at approximately 20 weeks gestation with my most recent pregnancy. I was not overweight when I got pregnant (98 lbs) and gained the amount of weight my OB recommended (40 lbs) for a total weight of 138 lbs at delivery on October 20, 2016. I am now almost 5 months postpartum and have lost down to 104 lbs, but the pubic symphysis dysfunction has not resolved, and according to my OB it may never resolve.
Prior to pregnancy, I was very active. I was able to lift, hike, walk, and do limited running (I also have rheumatoid arthritis, so a lot of running hurts and I avoid it). I am looking for lifts and exercises I can do that will not cause further injury and that could possibly help me rehab and gain some stabilization in my pelvis. Helping reduce the elasticity in my abs would also be nice, as the rapid weight gain and loss has left them strong but very relaxed.
Any ideas would be appreciated. Thank you!
