    Dearest Coach Rippetoe,

I am wondering what would be your, step by step approach, to alleviating the back rounding as seen in this video at around the 8 minute mark: http://vimeo.com/19736437

The coach in this video is obviously good, but could be better. I am curious as to what you would tell him in order to more effectively teach a safer full squat.

    Regards,

    RH

    Dearest ass-munch appropriately-named ReverseHypertrophy:

Every time you post a comment under the color of authority on strength and conditioning, you demonstrate to the entire online community that that you have no experience with the profession, that you are an unobservant fucking moron, and that I am a very patient moderator, especially for a moderator sitting in my buddy's house in Colorado with a snootfull of decent bourbon, or conversely that I have not yet learned to delete trolls. If you HONESTLY think that Samerr's low back is in flexion at 8+ minutes, please stop pretending that you deserve an opinion on this topic. You do not understand the difference between anatomical spinal extension/an anatomically neutral spine and the appearance of the muscular low-back in extension.

If you actually have a $30K/year S&C job at some college, the students are the victims of your malpractice. Learn the insurance business. Or real estate. Or go back to school and become an actuary. Or get hired by the fucking TSA. But something tells me that you're not suited for these things either. Dishwasher at Applebee's?

    Dearest Coach Rippetoe,

I truly do apologize, perhaps I should have been more clear. That is more of a severe case of butt wink, but to me, butt wink and rounding are one in the same, they are unathletic compensations to a heavily loaded movement that said athlete is not yet prepared for.

Forgive me, as I actually meant to link this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCh4b...e_gdata_player

The last few reps make me cringe, I do sure so hope that this individual would not allow his athletes to squat in such a manner. Belted rounding is very unathletic and unsafe. In fact, aspiring athletes should learn how to brace the core without the aid of a belt, but that is another issue.

When you tell people you can teach someone to squat deep within one session, does this claim infer you will allow them to round their back or allow severe butt wink to occur in order to hit depth? Please do clarify, as will be greatly appreciated.

    Regards,

    RH

I'm sorry, I just realized that you work at either a Curves franchise or a PT office. You cannot distinguish "butt-wink" from the fluttering eyelashes of your boyfriend. You are not entitled to cringe when you watch me squat, any more than I am entitled to cringe as I watch Dr. Cooley perform heart surgery. You don't know what you're talking about, you have no personal experience with this exercise, and you need to go back down to E&P and troll there.

    Done.

I worked at an Applebees during school. To be fair, dishwashers require a modicum of anatomical understanding so as not to fuck up their back while moving crates of china/glasses around; at the very least, they have to keep their mouths shut and get work done. Either of these criteria disqualifies him.

Going without chalk might not be so bad compared to Texas. Even though I use chalk here it didn't really hit me why it's such a big deal until I visited South Carolina one time without any.

For the love of all that is good and holy, find some chalk, get to the 24hr fitness center, and film what happens when they tell you you can't use that stuff there. THAT would make a good platform video.
