Default Question regarding injury during the bench press

One of my athletes was on his 5th rep of his 1st set of 5 last night (280) when he felt a pop in his upper left chest near his armpit. He didn't experience any pain, the sensation just freaked him out and he asked the spotter to take the bar.

He didn't bench anymore but deadlifted fine after that and felt only a very mild amount of soreness last night. He woke up today with no pain or soreness to the touch or while stretching and no bruising.

However, he attempted a push-up to test it out and said the pain was a 7 on a 1-10. The pain was worse on the concentric phase of the push-up although still bothersome on the eccentric. Still no pain to the touch or while stretching it out, only while attempting that push-up, and still no bruising.

Has anyone dealt with anything like this before or have any ideas as to what might be going on?
