What's more impressive/greater display of strength, a set of 8 RDLs (assume some arbitrarily defined, adequate ROM, maybe stopping just below the knee) at x weight or a set of 8 DLs at the same weight? Assume all are performed correctly.

A dumb question, I know, but the answer isn't obvious to me.

    IMO, DLs. No stretch reflex.

Disagree. IMO, it would be more impressive to see someone do 5 reps of 455 with RDL,s than with Deadlifts. RDL's use less muscle.

Two people with the same 8RM DL, one is more explosive than the other, which one has the bigger 8RM RDL, considering both trained it "equal"? That's why I find DL more impressive.

N=1, but I think RDLs. I currently DL 1x5 at 415, and do 3x6 RDLs at 325. I could probably DL 385 for a set of 8, but there's no way I could possibly RDL 385 for a set of 8.

RDLs. You maintain constant tension on the lift throughout and there's less knee extension. You're also essentially using less muscle mass to complete the movement. If someone can RDL as much weight as someone else can DL, the person who did the RDL will be able to DL more no problem.
