Hi, I started strength training around a year ago but because of repeated adductor strains (twice resulting from squatting), I haven't been able to progress my squat numbers much and have had to take weeks at a time off to allow my adductor to heal or to deload and work back up. Both squat related adductor strains (on left side) occurred after switching to low bar from high bar but I have since switched back to high bar because I find it a lot easier on the adductor muscle. However, I have taken the last few months off from squatting heavy to allow the most recent adductor strain to heal (had periods where I tried squatting relatively heavy and if I felt any pain, backed off or didn't squat for multiple sessions) and have started building up my squat again after deloading to 135 lbs (up to 185 lbs). I don't feel any pain in the previously injured adductor when squatting but there is mild discomfort, the muscle feels tender after squatting, feels like it is being stretched and is usually more sore the morning after. I have also tried foam rolling the adductor area on multiple occassions and feel no tension in that area and when I do gentle adductor stretches at home, the muscle is usually slightly sore the next morning.
To fix my squat form, I found I was previously dive-bombing into the bottom of the squat rather going down in a controlled manner, so I corrected that and I also narrowed my stance and stopped pointing my toes out as much (10 degrees as opposed to 30 degrees, high bar).
I am hesitant to start increasing my squat numbers again (in fear of re-injuring my adductor), but would like advice on whether I should go ahead and do so.
Thanks for any advice.
