Im getting pain in my lower back, trying to keep abs tight. Maybe I should start using a belt?

I guess I need to reach back and try do drive my ass upwards from the hole more, which will create a more horizontal back angle?

    Any tips is appreciated

You are overextending your lower back which can cause low back pain. You may have to envision doing an "ab crunch" in order to over-correct for this. These are also too vertical. Sit back and lean over more. Nipples at the floor

Does he need to compensate by having the bar lower on his back then? If he is over the middle of the foot now and tries to learn more forward isn't he going to go onto his toes?

If the hips didn't also move back then yes, but they often do in order to solve the balance problem.
