    Hey Andy.

I have recently read your article regarding HLM for the young, explosive athlete and the older athlete. I am 37, approaching 38. Currently still in LP but have reset Squat once and now added light day midweek and working back up. I am going to run out LP then switch over to the HLM for the older athlete. My question is with the upper back off set of 8-12 reps, what % reduction will that be? Around 10-15%? Also with the light day Pull you have lat-pulldown but im currently chinning 3x5 with 10kg weight added and would like to keep that going up so is it ok to chin rather thsn pull-down? Thanks for any feedback.

Start with about a 10% reduction for the back off set and adjust from there. Weighted Chins will almost always going to be a better option than Lat Pulls for strength training. There are some advantages to doing Lat Pulls over Chins in certain instances but those instances probably don't apply to a guy just coming off LP. So keep chinning. Also keep in mind when you read my articles online that most programming examples......are examples, unless I'm citing some very specific routine or protocol. Don't read them as exact prescriptions FOR YOU.

Also, just remember you’re not old yet. I’m 40 and have at least 15 years before I start getting old!

Thanks Jim. Just out of curiosity whats your programming look like. I maybe have another couple of months LP left hopefully but intermediate territory will be on the horizon soon.

I ran LP much too long... basically kept resetting, getting sidetracked with dumb programming, etc. I made a lot of progress but it took longer than it should have because I didn’t move on to intermediate programming. Now I’m beginning my third round of Baker’s Garage Gym Warrior, which is an HLM type program.

I've reset Squat once thus far after failing 115kg. I'm now back upto 115kg and feels ok with added light day. I'm going to add the one top set with 2 x back off sets after next fail then just move on from there. HLM sounds good as my recovery is not as good as it could be due to family/kids, working nightshifts every third week but i get done what i can.

Andy, what is your go-to after LP for someone of my demographic? Close to 38yo male, 197lb, with busy work schedule including the dredded nightshift rotation, family/kids, tapping into recovery. I understand Texas Method 3 day is too brutal unless young. Also, am i able to purchase the GGW from your site, or do i need to be a member of your gym which, unfortunately i can not as i live in U.K.

GGW is designed for anyone who has access to basic equipment: bar, plates, rack, bench, etc. You don't need to be a member of Andy's gym.

I've completed GGW and I am almost finished with the HLM program from Andy's website and I've had great results so far. I am also a new parent and have limited time to train and I've been able to complete all the training sessions in 60 - 90 minutes.
