Default rehab for a dislocated knee and tears in MCL

    Hey Rip,

First, thanks for all the free information you provide on this site.

I have a friend who I've been trying to teach to squat using SS, and around a week ago he fell over a leg press machine and dislocated his knee. The dislocation caused tears in his MCL.

His PT has given him a stereotypical rehab program for the next two weeks, and then suggested he start on quarter squats and leg presses afterwards to "strengthen his knees".

He can air squat without any pain, so I was thinking maybe actual squats would be a better alternative to his PT's suggestion?

    a) what do you mean he "fell over a leg press machine" ?!

    b) Is his knee swolen? Did it hurt at the time? If he can airsquat to correct depth after just a few days w/ no pain seemes like it was a relatively light injury. I'd say try squats w/ weight and see how they feel in warm up as you ramp them up. if they feel ok then just do it.

(i'm not a doctor, check w/ your medical professional, etc)
