Default Shifting Wrist Position in the Bench/Press & Snack/Jerk

    Hey There,

I've videotaped my sets on the Bench, Press, Snatch and Jerk, and noticed a similar issue on all 4 lifts. My wrists tend to bend backwards during the set, by the time I lockout each movement. This happens even if I'm setting them correctly on the bench/press, prior to starting the rep.

Is there a cues or a ways to set up for the lifts that can help me eliminate this issue?

For the Bench/Press I've tried simply setting my attention to keeping the wrists in place throughout the lift, but what ends up happening is that my wrist position ends up shifting multiple times back and forth throughout the rep.

For the snatch and the jerk, my wrists end up bent backwards at the top prior to me remembering to straighten them with my knuckles pointed up. By that time, it's too late.

Is this a technique error that's going to require a reset? Any help is much appreciated

    Thanks,

Does this happen even at light warm-up weights?

Yes, for example even with just a 100 lb snatch/jerk or 115 lb press warm up I'm having the issue.

You've gotten into the habit of relaxing your wrists. You'll have to get out of that habit.

Do you think it’s a habit I can get out of without a reset?

What does the weight have to do with it? You think it's a strength issue? You do light warmups, right? Do them correctly.

Should it feel like I am crushing the bar in my grip and tightening the wrist area as hard as I can? Or is gripping too tight also an issue?

Thank about whatever it takes to keep your wrist straight.

Hey Rip, do you think this is an okay time to use a pair of wrist wraps on my worksets as long as I'm consciously forcing the wrists straight on every set (warm-ups and worksets)?

Was thinking about using them on press, bench and olympic lifts if you don't think it's a bad idea.

    Thanks
