Admit it, you're just working your way slowly into bi's and abs, Rip. Just let the secret out, it'll make you feel better!

On a serious note, I miss your benches. The slippery leather ones at my gym are not at all helpful for benching purposes.

And I think you interrupted the orangutan's leg press workout.

Great video. Are lying tricep extensions generally better for overall strength than regular tricep extension?

And that damn organg is still hiding because of idiots who won't power clean.

I think you're going to cop some flak from people for saying that the EZ Curl bar is useless for effective biceps training.

But I think these people are going to be the same ones that criticized you for saying in the leg press video that partial-depth squats were useless for helping a trainee reach full-depth.

    Brace yourself.

Anyway, my question. Am I right in saying when it comes to the bench press lockout, this will primarily (or only?) be using the distal / elbow-extension function of the triceps?

If so, and if the purpose of training the triceps is to focus on strengthening that lockout part of our bench, what I didn't understand from the video then is why it is important to train the proximal / shoulder extension function also. The video seems to state it in a 'this muscle crosses both joints and has two functions, therefore you must train both functions' kind of way. But why is this?

am I correct to assume, from this video, that the chin-up is the most efficient supplementary exercise for the upper body since it trains both elbow flexion and shoulder extension?

    Thanks. Fuck 'em.

    Yes...

Because if training both functions gets the muscle stronger, it will be stronger even when only using its distal function.

Yes, and that's why it's the only ancillary exercise in the novice program.

I'm going to try this next week. I've been looking for ways of increasing my bench (stuck at 330). The only triceps work I've been doing is the dip. This way I'll give my arms another reason to be more massive than they already happen to be. I look forward to the biceps video in the future.

This video had it all: Rip's massive arm; triceps extension; e-z curl bar; orangutan recovers and makes his return.

Really appreciate the video. Given all that I've learned about barbell training and getting big and strong, I never would have thought to utilize the e-z curl to my advantage.

What about close grip bench presses? I tended to favor this as a triceps assistance exercise as it is closer to a regular bench press but I'll give your triceps extensions a try.

I think there is plenty of shoulder extension working to keep the arm in proper line while the chest is held up. This may be something noticeable only to those of us who have a big arch and are working to hold the bar directly over the shoulder joint throughout the movement, but especially as it approaches lockout.
