    Rip,
In your book you mention that chin-ups are the only useful assistance exercise early in the novice program. Could inverted rows be incorperated as well. My thinking to this is that you say that incline bench is not needed since you bench press and overhead press; then would the same thinking hold true for pull-ups/inverted rows? also incorperating inverted rows would help balance the horizontal pressing since most everyone spends more time benching than anything else

Inverted rows are fine for people who can't chin themselves. People doing this program do not spend more time benching than anything else, and the direction of the row or chin is irrelevant because all the back musculature is being worked with chins, deadlifts, and cleans.

I see alot of people doing these in my gym now. I hate this because they insist upon taking up the squat rack for this. Not only do I have to compete with folks curling or half squatting, now I have to compete with inverted rows as well.

Ask em to move to the smith machine to do them. I've had to ask a few people to deadlift outside of the rack, now and they've been ok
