    Default 400lb deadlift

    In January I set myself a goal of a 400/300/200 deadlift/squat/bench.

I'm certain that I could handle a 300 squat now, but I'm nowhere near the deadlift goal. I think I set up those goals in two different leagues - ie, they aren't going to happen at the same time/strength level.

For those of you who have pulled 400+, what was your squat single (even an estimate if you were training 5's and never tested) when you achieved a 400lb deadlift?

I'd rather hear from poeple who actually TRAINED to get there, not like my fat friend who deadlifted 400lbs the first time he ever deadlifted, but can't full-squat to save his life.

I struggled to get to 400 for a while, too. I dedicated the last 3 weeks of my pre-deployment time towards SS novice progression, GOMAD and used a belt. I gained 23 pounds of body weight and did a total in Kuwait on the way to Afg: 325 lbs Squat, 185 lbs Press, and 405 Deadlift. Far and away my best lifts.

So 325 at 405... that looks like where I might land, too. Was that 185 a press or a bench press? You're not even in the same league as me in upper body strength if that was overhead press. I'd probably max at 130-135 right now on a good day.

For me, 400lb deadlift is actually easier than a 300lb squat. But I have long monkey-man arms.

I've 6'3" with short arms, so my squat is close to my deadlift. I was probably able to do a 400 dl when I could do a 360ish squat, but those are projected maxes based on looking back in my logs.

    Matt

I pulled 405 for the first time when my Squat 1RM was 320.

According to my records, I first deadlifted 185kg (408 lbs) on Dec 20th 2004, 16 months after I started training.

At the time I had squatted 140kg (309 lbs) for a shallow single and 125kg (276 lbs) for 3 reps. My true 1RM with full depth was probably around 130kg (287 lbs).

I weighed 88kg (194 lbs) at the time.

Currently my max raw squat is 75% of my DL.

I hit 405 in the squat before I hit it in the deadlift. Same deal with 495 - squat first while my deadlift lags.

I pulled 400 a month before my 45th birthday. It was a goal of mine. My 1 rep squat max at the time was 335 LBS. I considered it no small feat at the time considering earlier in the prior year I nearly feinted after pulling 335. I'm curious to see what I'd pull since I've since squatted 335 for 5 and pulled 370 for five last Sunday. I was shooting for a 400 Squat by my next birthday but some setbacks have put me way behind.
