I am following Practical Programming (2nd Ed) Novice Program. Which consists of :
Workout A
3x5 Squat
3x5 Press
1x5 Deadlift
Workout B
3x5 Squat
3x5 Bench Press
1x5 Deadlift
Followed at AxBxAxx BxAxBxx adding 2.5kg/5lbs to all lifts, deadlift inclusive every time.
About me:
Age: 19 M
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 80kg/175lbs
5 rep maxes:
Bench: 90kg/200lbs
Squat: 105kg/230lbs
Deadlift: 125kg/275lbs
OHP: 65kg/145lbs
Question:
- Could you share your thoughts on continuing this routine as long as I keep adding weight to lifts?
I understand that it can be taxing on the nervous system as the weight gets heavier but i want to know if i may be doing more harm than good by max deadlifting 3x a week.
Please dont just tell me to start doing the next SS routine with power cleans, instead share your experiences and thoughts.
Keep doing it until it stops working.
Note: you're not really "maxing." a 1RM deadlift, e.g. one done in competition, will jack you up for a while; a 5RM is exponentially less stressful. At your size and age, you can probably add another 50+ lbs before doing it 3x a week becomes excessive.
Also, If you don't want to do PCs you can at least do clean pulls for the warmup reps leading to the top set of 5 deads.
Something like:
Clean high pulls:
20kgx10x2
60kgx5
Clean pulls:
100kgx3
Deadlift:
125kgx5
