For my first belt, I wanted to get a cheap one and try it on for size first. Couldn't find one for sale on retail so I'll have to settle for Amazon. Here's what came up in my area:

    BBN "weightlifting"
Best Body Nutrition Ceinture d'haltérophilie L: Amazon.fr: Sports et Loisirs

    BBN "powerlifting"
Best Body Nutrition Ceinture de musculation S: Amazon.fr: Sports et Loisirs

    BeSmart
Poids de levage Ceinture en cuir Pro à levier pour entraînement de gymnastique d'haltérophilie, noir, Large 32" - 36": Amazon.fr: Vêtements et accessoires

Which one of those looks the least worse? (There's pretty much no description provided)

Neither of them is optimal. I have the BestBodyNutrition "Powerlifting" belt and at 10cm/4inches it is too wide for a good deadlift setup. Mark Rippetoe recommends a 3, 2.5 or 2 inch belt for deadlifts. Other than that it is OK and 10mm thickness is within Rips specs. Cheap(I got it for free when I ordered whey) but looks more than durable enough for the weights I am lifting. I wear it loose and high on my work set only and that works. The "weightlifting" belt is tapered; not recommended. The BeSmarter belt is also 4 inches wide but the thickness is within Rips specs.

If you're in France you can get the Metal belt. No idea if it is vegetable tanned.

From those three I would not go for the lever belt. The first one looks chrome tanned, so I'd assume the second one is also (same company)

Get a Metal belt or SBD belt if you're in France.

Thanks for your recommendations guys. Unfortunately those belts are quite expensive and 4"... I looked all over the Internet for 3" belts that would deliver in France but couldn't find any.

    So my options are:
    1) Buy one of those 4" belts. The outlook for little Tommy and Elie holiday presents deteriorating by an equivalent amount.
    2) Wait until spring and my planned trip to the US of A until I get a belt, and train belt less until there.

Since you don't have a log, I would recommend waiting for your transatlantic trip, unless your training advancement is such that not having a belt would hold you back.

More bang for ya buck, feel me? Just make sure that you buy it with time to get to your hotel before you leave. Also good to check with the hotel if they can receive it in advance and hold it for you.
