I Just wanted to post how ridiculously fast one gains weight on this program.

6'3, starting weight was 180 pounds.

    5 days later, I'm at 189 pounds.

Doesn't get better than that. Today time to do some lifting

You can't pay attention to weight gains or losses in such a short time frame. You could stop eating carbs and drinking water for the next 5 days and you'd be back to 180 pounds.

You're probably eating more carbs and you're retaining more water, also your stomach is more full with stuff if you're eating more now. Just stick with it and don't get put off when your weight gain slows down after the first little while.

Well, it is quite a bit of water gain for sure. Actually this might make more sense:

Before I started GOMAD, I was under 20 grams of carbs a day (lchf diet) for over 7 months, not one cheat day. So the rapid switch you can say really was a big one.

But, on the under 20 grams a day of carbs, my bench had stalled at 198 pounds for 2 weeks, couldn't get it over it. Today lifted 5x3 for 204 pounds no problem (numbers are not 5s because plates are in kilos, so I'm converting to pounds).

I went from 165lbs to 196lbs in 5 weeks two years ago.

Edit: 6' tall. Was 127lbs when I started lifting at 19 years old.

Could you speak a bit about your experiences lifting on lchf? I am currently in my 7th month of a (close to zero carb - only carbs from green vegetables) lchf diet while attempting to do SS. Basically, linear progression is measured in weeks (about every two weeks/6 workouts I can add weight to the bar). For me, bodyweight changes have been incredible; strength gains...eh..., not so much.

How was the transition back to carbs? Any difficulties? How many carbs per day and what kind? from what sources?

    Your thoughts?

Gaining weight is very hard on LCHF. I managed to go from 174 to 180 pounds, but got stuck at 180 pounds, wouldn't go higher. Also, I could only do linear progression to a point before I started stalling hard. This was at 135 pounds for press, and 198 pounds on bench.

I'm still eating exactly the same LCHF, just adding 1 gallon of milk (180 grams of carbs there).

My thoughts is that LCHF isn't that great for strength. I do it for health reasons (I believe it's the healthiest lifestyle there is).

If your body is not recovering its glycogen stores in the muscle to improve strength or even recovery, its not a healthy lifestyle.

Everyone needs carbs. Its not a magical fat gaining food source.
