    Default training dilemma

    Rip,

I'm abroad for a semester. and unfortunately the weigh troom facilities of the university I'm at are less than stellar. The bar weighs about 30ish lbs and is maybe 5.5 feet long. I managed to squat 90kgs + bar on it today with no problems, but I'm just not particularly sure how safe it is. At least the squat rack isn't wooden.

Gyms in the city are few and far between, and aren't even guaranteed to have a squat rack. They're also expensive and a long excursion to get to.

Given a less than ideal situation, I could focus on a. continuing strength training with the goal of getting stronger in mind b. continue strength training with maintenance in mind or c. adopt some sort of crossfit or sprint routine to focus on other fitness aspects.

What would Rip do? I will probably do either a or b unless you tell me I'm going to kill myself if I squat 91kgs.

thanks for the books, the federal reserve is about to make you a very rich man

It's just a semester. Quit worrying about your strength training till you get home, stay in shape as best you can, enjoy the experience, the food, the booze, and the gals. If I told you to try to make progress on your strength program at the cost of this experience a young guy gets only once, I'd be the biggest buzzkill squatnazi bastard on Earth. And I am not.

    Rip,
Has anyone ever told you that you are like the awesome uncle that they never had? That kind of advice is why i listen to you. By the way, I live in NM and I am getting married in July. As a joke, my fiance said "are you going to invite that barbell guy you always talk about?", so this is your invitation if you like crashing weddings. Most of her family is from Texas, BTW

But Rip, how can one ascertain the favor of women without an increasingly strong posterior chain and powerful hamstrings?

One must understand what attracts the favor of women. Muscles do not, unfortunately -- there are lots of lonely muscular guys.

Women keep what attracts them efficiently in both rotation and secret... That's how that particular species prevails...

I guess a powerful posterior chain could help a bit with the pushin', but it's much more fun to let her do all the work anyway. That's why men have backs, so we can lie on them. Leaves hands free too.

Muscles alone won't, but they do seem to help. At least, that's my experience, and with a face like mine, I need all the help I can get.
