Texas Method for Powerlifting
Hey Mark. I have done powerlifting for 1 year, weightlifting for 2, and am thinking about coming back to powerlifting, using the texas method as I'm an intermediate.
Texas method (stress/restore/peak)
Monday
High Volume / High Intensity Session
Back Squats 5 sets of 5 reps across
CG Bench Press 5 sets of 5 reps across
Clean Deadlift 5 sets of 5 reps across
Wednesday
Low Volume / Low Intensity Session
Squats 4 sets of 2 reps @ 50%/55%60% 1RM
Bench Press 4 sets of 2 reps @ 50%/55%60% 1RM
Sumo Deadlift 4 set of 2 reps @ 50%/55%60% 1RM
Friday
Low Volume / High Intensity Session
Box Squats 1 set of 5 new PR
Bench Press 1 set of 5 new PR
Sumo Deadlift 1 set of 5 new PR
Is there any reason that shouldn't work? Monday is the stress session, Wendsday is a recovery session but also used to train speed and technique, and friday is the pr day.
Im not sure if doing deadlifts 3x a week is that good, so maybe I should trade it on the first day for a GM or a row or some kind of lighter pull. I'm also not sure on wether the wendsday practice seems too stressfull, but the total volume (repsxsets) is not that different.
Thanks in advance man

This is a good version of the Texas method, although I personally think it's an error to omit presses. I think that heavy deadlifts 2x/week may get old really quick, but you're aware of this and will know when it happens.

So there is not too much stress on wendsday session at first glance? Splendid.
Yeah, I understand that but my OH Press is 176 with a 220 bench, so I thought it wouldn't do much harm.
I agree, I think rotating pulls/rows there is the trick.
Cheers Mark!
