Starting Deadlift
Branching off from another convo:
What was your deadlift when you started lifting? Your size would worth knowing, too.
I did 315 in shitty but not hitching form, which I don't think is all exceptional, especially considering my size and what I've seen others do.
-
Started? I thought I did 95 pounds, but looking back in my logs I see it was 115 (bodyweight of 150 at the time, 5'10" male). Felt like murder at the time.

I was 15 and weighed 112. DL was 215 with awful form. Y'all some weak muh-fuggas.

315 lbs is a pretty big deadlift to start with. I could DL 100kg (220 lbs) for a few reps when I first tried which is definitely above average from what I've seen.
I met an old friend in the gym a couple of years ago. Now, this guy is quite big (192cm (6'4") and over 100kg (220 lbs) and when we were in school together, very strong and athletic, captain of the water polo team. One of the strongest guys I knew back then. Now, he had been going to the gym for a few months, machine work mostly, and saw me doing deadlifts (200kg 5x3) and wanted to try them out. He wanted to try 200 but I knew he wouldn't budge that of course, so I took some plates off so he could "warm up" with 120kg (265 lbs).
To cut a long story short, he got 120 up, but it was a hard struggle (and he didn't ask for any more). The rule of thumb in powerlifting circles is that most average guys will DL 80-100kg (176-220 lbs) the first time they try. Athletic guys or those who have done some manual labour may manage 120-140kg (265-309 lbs). Above that is exceptional.

I managed 1x120kg or maybe it was 130kg first time.
My form was horrid however so I started doing the program on maybe too low, at 80kg. My jumps have also been somewhat inconsistent, jumping 5lbs in the beginning, then upping to 10lbs, down to 5lbs and now up to 10lbs jumps again. Don't ask
A good friend of mine that I tried to get to do SS did 150kg quite easily the first time he DL'ed. He just saw it pre loaded with 150kg and decided to lift it. He did, and with perfect form! I'd call him a DL natural tbh, only thing he had issues with was lowering the weight again as he would hit his knees.
Too bad I wasnt able to sell him on SS, no time he said.

Yeah, some people are a little stronger than that as I wrote here.

Fuck you guys, I started at 135. I used straps too, to improve my grip strength.
-
80kg IIRC. That was pretty light though. I think a few sessions after that I hit 110kg - 120kg. Nothing awe inspiring, but nothing too tragic either. Might have weighed 65kg? I don't know, I wasn't keeping a log at that point.

I started at 200# at 5'9" and 140lbs. I'm pretty sure I did 10# increases for at least a month. Once I got to 275 I filmed myself and realized that my form was garbage.
