I think it must be your supps, my man. Why would back muscles get tight during a squat?
I read a lot of your articles Rip, and I watched a handful of youtube videos where you explain the hip drive is all too important when performing a correct squat.
I did the hip drive last night and on set 3, I started to feel the lower back become very very tight. Is this a normal thing to happen? I've never felt the tension/stress to the lower back except when I deadlift.
Is this a good thing, or should I take caution?

I have no idea. It only felt different after I did the hip drive.
Previously, I didn't use the hip drive and instead would just go down and up, keeping my back rigid I never felt the tightness.
How could it be the sups, considering the above?
Is your basis of the hip drive youtube videos only or have you researched this in any other way; for instance, reading books that explain hip drive or speaking with a coach who teaches hip drive?
I also felt lower back tightness the first month or so of squatting properly. It will pass once your lower back is strong enough to support the weight.
Planks are the answer.
