Since I began SS last June (2014), I've had several opportunities to talk about it with friends who, I know, could benefit. Notwithstanding my best efforts to sell SS to them, I've yet to get through. I've practically memorized some of Rip's PJMedia articles and boiled my spiel down to just a few minutes. No takers. Damn shame.

    What about you?

People are weak and lazy, both mentally and physically. It's hard to get the average person to grasp any concept that involves hard work and willpower.

One person for me. My wife. She has always enjoyed exercising and she was the typical machine-based or pink dumbells, same weight, reps, sets every time person. The free weights section is for the guys and women folk don't go there.
Soon after we got together I talked her into working out with me in my basement. As she has related to others - it was a game changer for her.

I've talked to other people about it but no one has expressed an interest. Doesn't surprise me. It's hard work. As they say, if it was easy every one would do it. But I agree it is a shame.

I haven't had much success either and sometimes I think maybe I should be more aggressive, since the soft sell I've been using hasn't really worked.
I got my husband started last fall, then he had some knee soreness and quit for a while but has recently picked it back up. I think maybe it bothers him he has to ask me to open jars for him, lol.

I just point to the letter I wrote to Rip. After that it's up to them.

    So let's flip the coin.....
How did we come across SS? I think most of us found SS because we were actively looking for something. Would we have responded if someone gave us a "SS Schpiel" if we weren't actively looking for something? I think we can engage an SS talk with someone who's already seeking, rather than someone who is not. So it may be best to just be patient with those around us and let them at least get to the point of wanting to change before we try to "sell SS" to them.

This is the correct strategy. Tell people what it's done for you and let them come to you for guidance if they decide they want to go that route. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't fix stupid.

You can lead a whore to culture but you can't make her think. (With apologies to Dorothy Parker)

I think the hardest part is that everyone is already overly concerned with "destroying their joints" by heavy lifting so that even when they do start training, they will pull back or just stop all together after the slightest odd pain or twinge. Unfortunately, this cycle will likely continue for them until they actually do get strong but they have to weather the storm of minor tweaks here and there. When I first started, it seemed like I would get aches and pains with the slightest break in form but as I have gotten stronger, it seems like I have a lot more room for error without things hurting. Something Rip said always comes to mind when I think of this…"You can be wrong if you're strong."
