How long does it take to develop a strength base(able to bench press your weight, and squat 1.5 times your weight) following starting strength? This brother is 5'11 around a buck fifty trying to weigh 190 pounds. I want to be like those big black guys in the nba.

If I start off at 100 pounds on the squat and 50 pounds on the bench press(I'm not very strong) how long do you think it would take to develop a strength base? 15 weeks?

If you added 5 lbs to your bench every week, then like 6-9 months?

You can really only squat 100? Bench 50? How old are you?

If you can add 5 pounds to your squat workout every session and workout 3 days a week you would add 15 pounds to you squat weekly.
If you did that for 13 weeks you would add 195 pounds. From a base of 100, that would put you at just shy of 300 pounds, you goal (more or less) if your body weight is 190.

You would progress at half that rate on the bench. Gaining 150 pounds to your bench (from a base of 50) putting you at 200 pounds at 190 BW in 13 weeks.

You should be able to progress faster than that, and your strength level is probably higher than what you think it is.

The key is eating. If you add 40 pounds to your frame, getting to those #s isn't hard. Most people will not do that. They get concerned about fat, abz or just don't like to eat that frequently and stall out.

Depends on a lot of things. Age, weight, height, training history, talent, whether they're willing to follow instructions, whether they're willing to gain weight, whether they have a coach, anthropometry, desire, adherence to the program, etc. I think adherence is the biggest problem! Okay. You should be able to do it in less than a year. You might be able to do it in a little more than 3 months. 6-9 months is very realistic. At 5'11", you definitely need to weigh more than 190#. 220# would be a good start.

    I'

I'm 18. My body is weird. I can put 200 pounds on my back and squat it but I can’t bench press 100 at all. I think it’s cause I never learned to deadlift until last January I appreciate the info man I really do. 13 weeks is really good to hear.
I know I gotta eat food. Food has been my issue when I tried SS before. I’ll do whatever it takes to be a better basketball player.

If you can squat 200 now, then you shouldn't have much trouble getting to a 1.5 bw squat. Bench may take a little longer.

See I got a knee bone bruise in January, the same month I learned how to deadlifts. I was messing up SS, thinking stiff-legged deadlifts and pendlay rows were more important than power cleans and deadlifts.

So now I got knee pain that won't go away and I'm not feeling strong at all.
