Getting back on track after microlaminectomy
Hello,
I herniated my L4:L5 disc about a year ago. I'm mostly ok, but there is a small sequestration that can't self heal.
I am going in tomorrow for a minimally invasive procedure just to remove that part. The Dr. is telling me I can return to work in 2 weeks. My job involves being on my feet all day and he says that's fine.
Beyond that he says he'll clear me to return to elliptical/treadmill type stuff at 4 weeks and sports at 8 weeks, assuming I pass his evaluations.
I'm thinking at 8 weeks, start over at the empty bar and go up 5lbs a workout. That would take upwards of 4-6 months to get back where I was, depending on the lift.
Do you feel that is too aggressive or too conservative? Should I push through a reasonable amount of pain? Should I do anything at all in the meantime to try to stay flexible?
I appreciate your time.

My thoughts on a doctor's opinion of your rehab have been made clear hundreds of times. Start back as soon as you can deal with the pain if you're sure his repair is good. Move ahead as fast as pain permits. Force the injury to heal. You do not require his permission or his approval to do this, but you must be willing to face the consequences either way it goes, good or bad.
