Starting Strength Coaches Association & Conference

Since the beginning of 2010, Mark Rippetoe and staff have held 29 Starting Strength Seminars throughout the United States and Canada, and more than 180 people have earned the Starting Strength Coaching Certificate. This announcement shall serve to formalize the formation of the Starting Strength Coaches Association. At this time, no action is required to join – if you have passed the seminar and have the Starting Strength Coach Certificate, you are a member of the association. No membership dues or further action on your part is necessary at this time.
Further, the time has come to hold the first convention of the Starting Strength Coaches Association, so that we can spend a weekend learning, lifting, networking, and eating good food. The two and a half-day conference will kick off on Friday evening, October 5th at the Wichita Falls Athletic Club. The program will include a variety of speakers on topics such as: building a business around Starting Strength, advanced programming, conditioning, and equipment.

    Exceptional idea, Rip, congratulations!

I will be unable to attend, though I will be there in spirit. Columbus day weekend is the national meeting of an organization I belong to, and has been for the past 15 years. Will the date be a moving target from year to year? I understand that the needs of the many out weigh the needs of the few, I only hope to be able attend in the future.

The thing is still in the planning phase. Next year will likely be different, we'll see.

Thanks...the only reason I will not be there is the reason stated above. Once again, congratulations on all of your hard earned successes. Stef is included in that sentiment.

Ironic that this comes to fruition the same day I get another stupid email from the NSCA (wanting more money from me) to get their latest cert- CSPS, certified special population specialist. This is probably the equivalent of my "recertification with distinction" and "double secret probation". I'm gonna get to a seminar soon to learn AND SUPPORT Starting Strength. This is truly one of the greatest things for the personal training nation.

If you mean the old Basic Barbell thing we did for CrossFit, that is not the same course at all. It was not tested, and had about 1/3 the content of the SSS. June is still open, so I'd come to that one if I were you.

I decided to to let CSCS lapse after the first cycle since I essentially saw no return on my "investment", place I was employed at valued my CSCS exactly $1 more per hour than a weekend "fitness" certification. Now I just need to save up enough money to go to a SSS.
