If it is light, you may be just fine. If it is heavy, chances are good you will feel it during the match. Tough to say without more info. Generally, training heavy right before a competition is not the best idea.
Ive a rugby match on Sunday but have a lifting session tomorrow. Will lifting tomorrow negatively effect me for sunday? I'm still lifting pretty light weight, but I dont want to be too fatigued come sunday. Would significantly upping my calories and sleep tomorrow improve my recovery for sunday or will it be a waste of time?

What Tom said. Unless you're still in the first month or so of novice LP, lifting on Saturday will affect your play. During rugby season I only lift twice per week, as far from the next match day as possible.
I know a lot of people who refrain from lifting before they compete bc they want to avoid any chance of injury. If you're light then the chances are slim, but then again that's why they are call accidents right?
