I went surfing today for the first time in a year. Wow what a different 10 months of strength training makes! I caught every wave I tried for (DLs and chin-ups make for strong paddling). The "pop-up" was fast and easy (bench and squats). And I recovered from each paddle-out in just a couple of minutes (HIIT).

I screwed up my shoulders surfing last spring. I took two months off to heal them up. Then when I started SS I swore off anything that got in the way of recovery until LP was exhausted. Now that LP has run its course, I'm starting my sports back up. It's awesome what getting stronger does for the performance and enjoyment of sport! I feel like a Kid.

Actually it was from carrying my then new board 2 blocks from my buddy's house to the beach and back. It's an 11' board and great for old (weak) surfers, but it weighs 30 lbs. It is not only heavy but wide and so I had to carry it "hawaiian style," horizontal on my hip with my arm going down to the other rail at a 45 degree angle, stretching out the muscles and ligaments in ways they didn't like. 6 weeks of this once or twice a week and my shoulders were toast. I now have a luggage carrier to put on one end of the board and I roll it behind me. My buddy does the same thing by strapping a skate board to one end. His way is cooler.
