Just saying hello
Hi all,
I've been reading on this forum for a while, and just wanted to introduce myself and say hello to everyone.
I'm a 56 year old male living in Norway, and I work in an office.
I'm 122kg/268lb and 1.78/5'10", so, yeah, I'm a fat old geezer.
It got so bad I got back pains from leaning over the sink brushing my teeth. lol
Finally I decided something had to be done, and eventually found Starting Strength on the net. Got all 4 books, and started very carefully mid January.
I work out at home, and don't have all the necessary equipment yet.
But I'll get there, there's no hurry. I figure I'll be doing this for the rest of my life.
So far I like the overhead press best, even tho I kinda suck at it, and the dead lift.
Can't do proper cleans because of stiff elbows and weak wrists, so I've done barbell rows instead. We'll see about the clean a bit down the road...
Squats are ok, I guess, but the bench I don't like.
Weights so far:
SQ = 54kg/119lb
BP = 52kg/114lb
BR = 65kg/143lb
OP = 49kg/108lb
DL = 84kg/185lb
Well, that's all for now.
cheers
Jan

Hello, Jan. The Norse are quite well represented here. Keep at it and you will be surprised at how far you will go.

Hi Bob. Yeah, we'll see what happens down the road.

Always good to have more adults around. Welcome.

Thanks! Well, mental age varies between 6 and 90, or so.

Welcome Jan. Congratulations on getting started on the program and for staying with it. Keep showing up and do a little more each time.

Welcome Jan.
For a clean issues,i think you don't need them yet until your basic strength are developed at least 300lbs of the DL.Also clean is not needed for everybody unless you want to be a explosive athlete or you are just fun with them.
Even more Barbell rows are not able to replace the clean unfortunately.
I think writing a training log will help you much for a proper progression,technique,injury and over all issues.
Also other forum sections like coach Q&A will help you sometimes.
Glad you are here.
