Grip Plates are Lame.
...any good?
I'm getting my home weight room set up, and am exploring options for plates. A local dealer sells Troy plates and can get me 600 pounds worth of the nice grip plates (Troy GO) for about $900. It seems like a reasonable deal considering most places online it would be able the same (after shipping) for standard black iron plates.
Anyone have any other recommendations for buying plates?
Grip Plates are Lame.
craigslist- I don't pay more than 50 cents a pound. I've bought over 2000# pounds this way. I'm also not a fan of the grip plates.
I've been watching craigslist for months, and there hasn't been much good in my area as far as weights go.
Please educate me on the problem with grip plates.
I agree that used plates are the way to go. Just make sure they're Olympic and you'll do fine.
$1.50/lb is insane for iron plates. The local commercial fitness store here sells played brand new for $0.68 per pound, and none of the other stores I've visited sell for more than $1/lb.
Everyone says Alison Foreman at York is the best option when buying and shipping new plates, Google her contact info maybe.
They are better than nothing. I'm glad I bought all my stuff when it was $0.39 a pound. I have around 1,800 pounds of Olympic plates (non grip of course)
