    Hey Coach,

I wanted to get your advice on these shoes:
    http://www.maxbarbell.com/products/c...tlifting-shoes

They're some of the cheaper WL shoes I could find at $55 shipped. Have you ever tried them? Do you think they are too large heel height (they say it's .75 heel but total heel height is 1.25...)

I know many people jumped on the addidas $90 shoe bandwagon but then stef chimed in and warned people about their squishy soles.

Sir, I have always wondered why squatting barefoot is not permitted in official competitions. Why is that?

I have the Wei-Rui shoes from maxbarbell.com. They're the first weight-lifting shoes I've owned, so I can't compare them to other brands, but I know they are better than not having weight-lifting shoes. My only complaint is the the strap D-buckle is plastic and likes to rotate when I tighten the strap. I have to hold it in position when I tighten it. The laces are also 6 inches too long and get in the way, but that's minor. I expect they'll last a while considering I only use them at the gym.

Buy the cheap belt from there, too, and a chalk bag. I've read on this board that a velcro belt is a poor choice for heavy weights, but for a beginner, it's better than no belt. You can get a better belt and shoes later when you've proven to yourself their usefulness.

I have the Wei Rui Maestro's and they've held up OK. By the way, some reviews: http://wlshoes.com/

I have had an older edition of the Wei-Rui's for about a year now and am very pleased, but weigh my input against the fact that the only other shoes I had for lifting are Chuck's.
The heels on mine are indeed about 1.25".

It is traditional in sports to wear clothing and footwear in competition that are commonly worn across the sport. Maybe a barefoot federation would be fun. I'd like to see splinters become a widespread badge of honor, similar to this: https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...62531682_n.jpg
