I'm 64 today. "Will you still need me, Will you still feed me?..."

When people ask why I'm lifting and training, I say "I'm training for old age!"

I'm delighted I found Starting Strength at age 61.

I'm still surfing, skiing and mountain biking. I'm still sailing on Wednesday nights and am happy to "jump" the main up, or crank on winches. I plan to climb the Grand Teton with some friends in July.

Strength is the basis of being able to still do this stuff. I have found I need to work on endurance and some cardio also, but maintaining my post LP strength is pretty easy on the maintenance routine I based on what Rip says he does.

Yes, I'm bragging a little, but I can get away with it with this group. You all feel the same way!

Training for old age: its a strength sport!

happy birthday! gene - and good on you for showing the young whippersnappers how it's done!

are you going to upgrade the gene61? seems fair to let your user name do some of the bragging for you and gene64 has a nice ring to it :-)

Happy Birthday Gene. I'm thankful for your friendship but I continue to struggle with envy. California is a strange state politically but the warm weather, mountains, and ocean is something we do not have in Michigan.

Yet all that said Carson, I can't wait to get back to the Midwest next year. I'll be content with my memories of sunsets over the Pacific and pelicans skimming the wavetops.

Dearly Beloved and I will ever so happy to meet you and yours somewhere East of the Mississippi. Wherever that happens to be. But we will be moving to Points South of Michigan near the confluence of the Mighty Mississippi and the Ohio Rivers in Southern Illinois near Carbondale. Easy driving distance for us. We'll have all the time God has left us to meet those we want to.

We will enjoy seeing you. What the hey? It's only some time and some gas.
