Are there actually any on here? I'm not sure. Anyway, if there are what kind of market research did you do in your business plan? I am having a bit of issue getting my target market beyond 'anybody.' That makes me sound retarded but what I really mean is I am not targeting a specific person and I want to target all types.

What's your plan for actually getting people into your gym? Different people respond to different things. If you say "anybody", the plan suggests you haven't really thought about this, and you're expecting people to just show up and stay engaged.

It would be helpful to do case studies. Pick a certain specific kind of person that you think you can market to, and come up with a plan to get them training with you. You can extrapolate a target demographic from such examples.

I would like to do a little strength coaching on the side, picking up a few extra bucks while changing a few lives is very appealing. I have a rack, bar, plates, bench, and Airdyne in my garage, and have attended a SS seminar so am qualified for PT insurance. I've coached a few coworkers but none have extra $ to pay, and I'm not even really sure where to begin to find some clients other than in person networking.

This is not meant as a thread hijack, just figuring anyone who is willing to chime in with experience with this would help OP as well.

The marketing plan was a different section and I have already done it. This is asking me to say who I am specifically targeting. Am I getting confused and thinking I need specific facts and figures about my target?

I am not trying to start my own coaching business and I want to open a gym for members to use and trainers to rent. The economy where I'm living is improving and the government is encouraging people to start up businesses. I have had this plan for four years now and it seems like a good time to go for it.

Unfortunately I don't have anything to offer with regard to your original question, but I wanted to say I wholeheartedly wish you all the best for this.

Thanks. I joined a local globo today and it'll do but that's it. It will just do. The bars were all those cheap thick CAP ones and there wasn't much space for deadlifts and none at all for Olympic lifting. There are two crossfits with premium membership rates and strict attendance requirement so I know there is the market for it here.

I think that's your answer right there. Your target market is the people who aren't going to be best served by the cheap globo or the strict and expensive Crossfit.

Gyms with douchebag owners are never in business very long.

    starting strength coach development program
    its pretty obvious.

you'll have to somehow recruit disgruntled crossfitters . . . or people at the globo gym looking for something a little more 'black iron'-ish.

you might have to get a little 'low' and dirty. (fliers on their car in gym parking lot, etc)
